São Lourenço do Barrocal – português

Situada no sopé da Colina de Monsaraz e nas proximidades do lago de Alqueva, esta Herdade, que pertence à mesma família há mais de dois séculos, foi transformada em um hotel de luxo onde a alma e características da propriedade agrícola e monte alentejano estão totalmente preservadas.

No século XIX, este monte era uma pequena aldeia agrícola, dinâmica, cuja produção de cereais, legumes, vinho e criação de gado garantia o sustento das 50 famílias que aí residiam o ano inteiro.

Atualmente, José António Uva, que pertence à oitava geração da família é o promotor de São Lourenço do Barrocal.

Tendo passado grande parte da infância nesta herdade ouvindo histórias da família, ficou determinado a trazer de volta a comunidade local, respeitando o seu ecossistema e história. Surge então este hotel de luxo despretensioso, no seio de vinhas, azinheiras e oliveiras centenárias.

Located on the foot of the Hill of Monsaraz and around lake Alqueva, this homestead, which has been in the same family for over two centuries, was turned into a luxury hotel where the heart and soul of the locations rural nature are almost completely preserved.

During the 19th Century, this small yet dynamic village was home to about 50 families year round, whose livelihood revolved around the production of cereal, vegetables, wine and livestock.

Nowadays, José António Uva, an eighth generation descendant, is the main promoter of São Lourenço do Barrocal.

He spent most of his childhood in that very homestead, growing up with tales from various family members. This sparked a determination to bring new life to the rural community, while still respecting its ecosystem and history. That’s where this down to earth hotel, right in the middle of vineyards and centuries-old holm oak and olive trees.
